Deli Team Members are responsible for taking customer orders at our busy neighborhood deli counter, preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items to order while delivering an experience that makes people feel warm, welcome and eager to return. The ideal candidate has great customer service experience, enthusiasm for food, the ability to follow direction and respect for all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain cleanliness of the deli counter and grab and go case
  • Communicate and take orders from customers with a friendly and helpful attitude
  • Prepare sandwiches and salads to order, maintaining company quality control standards
  • Maintain consistent and clear communication with kitchen to ensure a fully stocked grab & go case
  • Respond to customer questions, make product recommendations and provide samples
  • Operate equipment such as convection oven, panini press and deli slicer, with focus on safety and consistency
  • Accurately weigh, label and package products to order
  • Provide prompt service, educating about products and services to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Routinely clean all work areas, and surfaces while ensuring all tools and equipment are in good working order
  • Maintain accurate and attractive signage for all items
  • Ensure prompt service and high level of customer satisfaction
  • Break down deli counter at the end of the night, ensuring all task lists are satisfactorily complete
  • Work as a team with other departments and counters to provide assistance when needed
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards as defined by both the handbook and by the DOA
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service to every customer and contribute to a positive work environment

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in the retail food industry
  • Relevant experience in the handling and preparation of food
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable agriculture, small batch and artisan food production
  • NYC Food Handler's License preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk up/down stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination
